This website provides valuable information from the GOPEC study, collaborative research between 10 UK universities and funded by the British Heart Foundation, which is looking into the genes which lead people to develop pre-eclampsia

re-eclampsia is a disease of pregnancy, associated with high blood pressure and loss of protein in the urine. It is one of the most common illnesses of pregnancy and can endanger both mother and baby. It affects about 3% of all pregnancies in the UK.

Gopec stands for the Genetics of Pre-Eclampsia. It is a consortium of researchers from 10 UK universities. Within the group, there are obstetricians and geneticists.

We are studying the genes which lead people to develop pre-eclampsia. By understanding which genes cause the disease, it may be possible to improve treatment or prevent its occurence.
